Advantages of SD card storage for surveillance cameras

Today we'll look at the differences between the various storage options for surveillance cameras and video doorbells.

Basically there are three different storage options. Storage directly on the smartphone, storage in the cloud and storage on local storage (SD card).

When storing video data, it is important to ask the following questions:

• Where is my data stored?
• How do I get my data?
• Who has access to my data?
• How safe is my data?

We will now look at the questions mentioned above in more detail and analyze the respective advantages and disadvantages.

Where is my data stored?

As mentioned above, data is stored either directly on the phone memory, in the cloud or on local storage (SD card).

Phone Storage: Saving data directly to your smartphone is a quick and easy way to quickly save important videos and photos. The advantage is obvious. You have the data directly on your smartphone and it is therefore not only quickly accessible, but also well protected. However, the downside is just as obvious. If all data is stored directly on the smartphone, the smartphone memory will quickly fill up and 'clutter up' your cell phone. Therefore, only manually recorded images and videos are saved this way and the automatic recordings are not.

Cloud storage: Cloud storage has the advantage that the data is stored decentrally on a server and can always be accessed as long as there is an internet connection. The big disadvantage of such storage is the monthly costs that are always associated with a subscription. In addition, it must always be taken into account where the server is located and whether all data protection laws are being complied with.

Local storage (SD card): Local storage on an SD card combines the advantages of mobile phone and cloud storage. Data is stored locally and free of charge on an SD card, does not litter your smartphone, and can still be accessed remotely at any time via our app. This means you have access to your data at any time, have no monthly costs and don't have to worry about the security of your data.

How do I get my data?

Access to the data is just as important as recording video and image data. Your data must be accessible and accessible at all times. We have therefore integrated remote access to the SD card via our app. This means that all authorized persons can access all data stored on the SD card. The app sorts the video data and shows it to you chronologically, so that you can access your recordings quickly and reliably.

Who has access to my data?

Since the surveillance cameras and video doorbells are linked to one or more password-protected user accounts, only you and other people authorized by you have access to the stored video data. All data is transmitted encrypted so that it cannot be hacked or accessed by third parties.

How safe is my data?

This question actually only arises if you store your data in the cloud. With local storage on your smartphone or an SD card, you don't have to worry about data security. The data is all encrypted and can only be accessed via your user account in the app.
